Today, you’re going to learn how to use your knowledge of English to learn Brazilian Portuguese. 

Even though English isn’t a Romance language, it was also heavily influenced by Latin and other Latin-based languages. For this reason, hundreds of English words are identical or very similar to Portuguese. 

In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to recognize certain patterns that will help you identify the meaning of words and also easily translate terms from English to Portuguese, and vice versa.

100 Portuguese words you already know 

We’re going to study 10 groups of words, for a total of 100 words. The words we’re going to study in this lesson have exactly the same root (or stem) in Portuguese and English, but they have different endings in each language. All the words in this list are similar to English not only in form, but also in meaning.
